A Memorable Winter Wedding

One year ago today we were deep in preparation for a very special day – the wedding of Sally’s daughter Vicky who married her fiancé Adam at Gate Street Barn, Bramley, Surrey.

Needless to say, there were huge expectations for the flowers which were all chosen to reflect the rustic winter theme of the wedding.

The Bridal bouquet and matching Bridesmaid bouquets consisted of the most beautiful white Anemones we have ever seen along with white Ranunculas, Silver Brunia, Senecio, Eucalyptus Populus foliage and natural pine cones. The bouquets also perfectly complimented the pewter grey dresses worn by the Bridesmaids.

Buttonholes of white Ranunculas, Silver Brunia, Rosemary, Eucalyptus Populus foliage and miniature pine cones were bound with twine to complete the rustic look.

The ceremony barn was decorated with Twisted Willow which was attached to the ends of the chairs together with white Hydrangeas and natural pine cones. Heart shaped pine cone wreaths and sacks of cinnamon scented pine cones were hung around the Barn and mixed foliage and Gypsophila were used to decorate the chandelier wheels. Lit birch trees and hurricane lamps on log slices hired from Streessfree Hire added a final finishing touch and added a warm Winter glow to the barn.

Following the ceremony, the barn was transformed for the wedding reception with tall cylinder vases surrounded by rings of pine cones and filled with arrangements of Pussy Willow, natural Birch and white Hydrangeas being placed in the centre of each table. Napkins were decorated with individual arrangements of Pussy Willow and Rosemary and miniature log slices, made by the Groom, were used to hold place and table names.

The seating plan was created with a wooden step ladder decorated with white Hydrangea filled lace bottles and an additional ladder plus a selection of wooden crates were filled with flowers to match the Bridal bouquet and in The Pheasantry a hot chocolate station created on a barrel table from Stressfree Hire with a macaron tower supplied by Queen Beas provided some welcome Winter warmth later in the day.

Whilst the wedding took place in Surrey, many of the suppliers used are Hampshire based, all having worked with Bridal Flowers Direct on a number of occasions and the day really would mot have been the same without their input.

Summer weddings will always be a popular choice for many couples, but we are definitely seeing an increase in the popularity of Winter weddings and as all the photographs courtesy of Hana Venn Photography show the colder months can be a magical time of year to get married.

Congratulations to Vicky and Adam on their first wedding anniversary this weekend and if you are planning a Winter wedding we hope this post will be inspirational.

Love My Dress Article

Apologies for the lack of recent posts but we are now well and truly into wedding season and the days and weeks seem to be flying by.

We are so thrilled to have one of our winter weddings featured on the blog of Love My Dress

Rebecca and Tom were married at Gate Street Barn, Surrey in February and had the crispest of winter days as the photos by Jessica Reeve Photography show.

Rebecca had chosen arrangements of primarily Eucalyptus foliage interspersed with white flowers to depict the time of year and to compliment the pale blue Bridesmaid dresses.

Complimenting us on the service we provided, Rebecca writes –

“The florist was delightful to deal with and totally ‘saw’ what I wanted- lots of greenery – eucalyptus, baby’s breath, ivy and then cream roses and flowers.  She made the venue look even better than I had hoped.”

It is always lovely to receive testimonials from our Brides but to see us mentioned in a wedding blog is very special.

We supplied the flowers for the wedding of Vanessa and James at Gate Street Barn, Surrey last August  and Vanessa had been a regular blogger on ‘So You’re Getting Married’ in the lead up to her wedding.

In her final post, written after her wedding, Vanessa praised the work of many of the suppliers she had hired for her wedding and we are delighted to have been included

WOW – What a Testimonial

Having featured the wedding of Russell and Jemma on our blog a few weeks ago we were delighted to receive this email from Jemma

Hi Sally and the team at Nursery Fresh

Now that Russ and I are back from our honeymoon we wanted to get in touch to say Thank You so much for the flowers you supplied and those you arranged for our wedding at Gate Street Barn on Monday 8th July 2013.

Flowers were one of the most important things on our wedding list must haves. I really wanted them to make an impact and add to the rustic countryside setting we had chosen for our wedding. Each and every meeting with you Sally was a pleasure. You really listened to my ideas and your suggestions matched the image I had in my head perfectly. You were also willing to work with the ideas I had to incorporate herbs into my bouquet, create unique and individual buttonholes for the men and use rustic twine to tie them with.

The trial bouquet was one of the best decisions we made in regards to flowers as it allowed me to make tweaks to the flowers we eventually used and how they were styled. It also allowed us to trial the table centrepieces we would eventually make and take photos to give you an idea of the overall style of the day I was aiming to achieve. This truly cemented in my mind that the relaxed English country garden style of flowers were right for us, the venue and our wedding day.

The Saturday before our wedding we came to collect the beautiful flowers we would be arranging and filled the back of a Land Rover Discovery. You kindly let us borrow the flower buckets which were a godsend considering the mini-heatwave we experienced. Russ admitted that he was surprised by how many flowers there were but once arranged and in position at the venue they really made the decoration of the barn and created the impact I was looking for. We had so many lovely comments from our guests about the beautiful flowers it really meant a lot.

On Monday morning you arrived bright and early with my bouquet, the buttonholes and corsages and the outside barn archway arrangements. Everything looked fantastic and just as we had discussed. There was never any doubt that you would deliver and I was confident in choosing you as our supplier. You also stayed to help Russ and Andy attach the archway arrangements ensuring that everything looked perfect for our special day which meant a great deal.

Our flowers lasted well beyond the wedding day itself and it was a shame that we were leaving on honeymoon without getting to enjoy them for longer. The arrangements and my bouquet were distributed amongst family and friends who were able to enjoy them for a week after the wedding day itself.

We would highly recommend Nursery Fresh to other couples and wish you every success for the future. I will also look for any opportunity to work with you again such was the enjoyment I took from our meetings and the final beautiful flowers we received.

Many Thanks

Russ & Jem

ps – just saw your feature on the website – thank you so much for the kind write-up! I was expecting a few photos and nothing else! We expect our photos by the beginning of September and will certainly share some with you.

Gate Street Barn, Bramley was the idyllic setting for the wedding of Jemma and Russell and it was a beautiful sunny July morning when Bridal Flowers Direct arrived at the Barn to deliver the Bridal Party and Porch Arrangements.

Jemma had decided she wished all the arrangements to compliment the English country setting of the Barn, in the heart of the Surrey countryside, and meticulous planning had gone into all the flowers with the help of her Auntie Di. Following several consultations with Sally of Bridal Flowers Direct the style and design of all the arrangements were finalised with Jemma even asking us to supply her with a mock up of her Bridal bouquet – such was her attention to every detail.

Jemma and Di wished to make all the venue arrangements themselves but required us to make the Bridal Party and Porch Arrangements.

As you can see from the photos below the finished results were stunning. Jemma and Di were both such a pleasure to work with and we have been promised more photos once Jemma and Russell return from their honeymoon in the Seychelles.

Everyone at Bridal Flowers Direct wishes Jemma & Russell every future happiness
